Jesus tells us that: "What goes into a mans mouth does not make him 'unclean' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.' " (Matt 15:11) Then He goes on further and states in Matt 15:17-18 "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things make a man 'unclean.' The book of Acts also makes mention of this: (Acts 10:11-15) He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by it's four corners. It contained all kinds of four footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."
"Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean." The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." In the Old Testament Scriptures, God commanded the Israelites to abstain from eating certain foods and required them to follow the law and observe specific feasts. There were no Christians at this time, so Gods commands were only for the Jewish people. When Christ Jesus arrived, His ministry was to bring the Gentiles a 'New Covenant.' Expanding Gods free gift of salvation to all who would choose to believe. Gentile and Jew alike. The laws of the Old Testament Scriptures are not dismissed by Christianity. We simply believe that we are saved by Faith in Christ Jesus and that the obeying of His Laws and doing Good Deeds is apart and separate from salvation. Salvation comes first, then God changes us and enables us to follow His laws and do Good deeds. We do not take credit for obeying God or for doing the good deeds that we do, instead, we choose to give God the Glory and Praise for enabling us to do these things. We are not saved by anything we do or by anything we have done. It is only because of what Christ Jesus has already done for us that we can be found righteous in Gods eyes. God changes us, God enables us, it is not of our own power, it is of His Power, His Holiness, that we are changed. God Bless You...Peace.

Most Christians do not follow these things because it was decided for them that way in the New Testament.
First of all, these laws were given only to Jews in the Old Testament. Nowhere does it say that God expects everyone to keep them.
In New Testament times, there was a problem. The first Christians were all Jews who came to believe that Jesus was the Messiah. But soon, they came to believe that this new message about Jesus that they had should be shared with people from all nations. Remember Peter and his vision? The New Testament specifically states that it was God who told them to share their belief with gentiles.
Now the problem for them was that they didn't exactly know what to do with those people who were not Jews and came to believe in Jesus. Should they convert to Judaism (remember, at that time, the Jewish Christians still worshipped at synagogues)? Some said yes, some said no. So there was an official council set up, the first church council that ever happend. All the Apostles were present to decide about that question, whether Christians should keep the Jewish laws, like kosher etc. and become Jewish. The answer to this question was "no". You can read the whole argument in Acts 15. That is why Christians today believe that they don't need to keep Jewish laws like kosher, simply because they are not Jewish and because the Apostles gave them just three laws that were not related to morals (read at the end of the chapter) to follow.

One more thing ... one of these threee things Christians should keep according to Acts 15 is to abstain from blood. It is because of that verse that Jehovah's Witnesses refuse blood transfusions. However, what is meant here is to not eat blood, and not the transfusion thing. As you can imagine, blood transfusion didn't exist at that time ... just so you wouldn't get confused with it. .... Read Acts 15 ... It's really essential.

Edit: It is not that those laws don't apply ANYMORE but that they never applied to any other people than the Jews.
And if you look at the 10 commandments, you will find much of it repeated in the New Testament, the moral parts of it, such as honoring your parents, not stealing ... well you know them. So those things definitely apply. Acts 15 is only talking about the things not related to morals.

because you dont need to.
in the OT God had a specific diet for the ppl of that time.
but if you read the new testament you will find that all food is blessed to our body by God's word and prayer.
we still need to look after our temple and eat well of course. concider this scripture:

Mark 7:18-20 (NKJV)
18 So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?”[a] 20 And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.

Food cannot defile us. it goes to our tummys and we **** it out hahaha.

there is another scripture that talks about blessing the food you eat by praying over it.

If your question had any validity, then we should be practicing the sacrifices also.

The diet laws, like the rest of the law, is found in the old covenant law. Only Israel was required to keep the conditions of that covenant. No Christian is a party to the old covenant. Christians are party to the new covenant, and there is no such requirement(s) under the new covenant.

What you eat or do not eat is not going to make you a better person.

The Christian rejection of the rigid Jewish codes of behavior is derived from Paul's teachings, but they are well grounded in Jesus's activities. Jesus abided by most of the lifestyle requirements while he lived, but his sacrifice freed us.

You might also want to look at Matthew 15:11

I don't remember the Bible ever mentioning what Jesus's diet was specifically and I don't remember Jesus ever saying what foods we should or shouldn't eat. Generally for me if an OT law is not reaffirmed in the NT then I believe it's no longer in effect.

Actually, the Apostles covered this very thing in a letter to the Gentile converts to Christianity. The occasion of their writing this letter had to do with an argument as to whether or not these new converts needed to keep the law of Moses and be circumcised.
Here is the part of the letter that covers your question:

Act 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
Act 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well, Fare ye well.

Let me put that in more modern terminology for you:
We are not to eat meat sacrificed to idols, or blood, or anything that has been strangled. If we know, for instance, that the roast on the table came from an animal that was sacrificed to some idol, or that the sausage contains blood, or that the chicken was strangled, we are not to eat it.
Other than that, dig in and enjoy!!

OH, and we are to keep ourselves from any kind of *** outside of Biblical marriage, as well.

Fare ye well!!

I do. I follow it out of the principal that certain foods aren't healthy whether or not Jesus died on the cross. I don't do it to earn salvation or remain ceremonially clean, but because God gave the advice to keep my body in tip top shape, and it is his temple. In fact, the closer we stay to the original diet of fruit, nuts, and grains, the healthier we will be.
