Gilbert W asked:
This prohibition is outlined in the Old Testament but strongly upheld by believers even in the New Testament. The death of Christ did not abolish the dietary laws governing clean and unclean animals. The death of Christ abolished the ritual sacrificial ceremonial system. This does not include the dietary laws. Totally different.

Leviticus 11:1-8
“You may eat any animals that has split hoofs completely divided and that chews the cud…..VS 7 Now the pig has a split hoof that is completely divided, but it does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. You must not eat the meat from these animals or even touch their dead bodies; they are unclean for you”.
Pork is unfit for human consumption. God never ever intended for mankind to eat pork meat. The Pig is considered to be a scavenger of the earth just like a Vulture.
Why do people eat Pig but will refrain from eating a Vulture? These animals proliferate human illnesses.
Smoking, and Alcohol are equally health hazzards.

christians follow jesus, not moses
They believe the old testament doesn’t count anymore..its whatever is convenient for em u know..
alot of things changed when jesus came, but the jews continue the tradition because they only believe in the old testament
Hey Pal, each to their own. Live and Let Live. Why are you jealots so hot about what we do or not do. Just tend to your own business and leave us out of your hateful world.
Let them eat pig because if they will follow bible then they will go out of grace from Jesus as Santa Paul tells “. “Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. And I testify again to every man who become circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. (Saint Paul’s Epistle to Galatians 5:2-4).
i thought there was a pig in the garden of eden to supply adam and eve with meat.
it is an animal just as cows and chickens are. if its not human, why not eat it if it tastes good?
It taste soooo goood.
Vulture mmmmmm tastes like chicken.
Good morning religious zealots how are you.!
Well we don’t stone people to death anymore either. Pigs are as you say somewhat of a scavenger animal, but in controlled environments vs biblical era holding pens, the food will be much healthier…..would God really deny us bacon?
i’ll try some vulture
you got any
Petter was shown by God in acts that no food is a sin. he was shown it was good for him to eat with gentiles and noty worry what the food was. Jesus’ death removed the food and sacrificial laws.
What Bible do you read? Really, I want to know.
Please post the scripture in the New Testament…..The New Covenant….
they interpret their cult book to suit them.
H is for the “here and Now” and I do what I want
Y is for it is now about You it is about me.
P is for the Pork is yummy
O is for the Ohhh God didnt punish me for it yet
C is for Christian is my label but not in my heart
R is for R u nuts? Its all about me!
I is for me, myself and I and not the BIBLE is 1st
T is for Turkey ham is not as yummy as pig ham
E is for “Eeeeeeeeee wait a second” its me before God.
Chrsitians are hypocrites. Havent you figured that out yet? Let me prove it. WATCH ALL THE THUMBS DOWN THE CHRISTIANS WILL GIVE ME because they dont want to hear the truth!
After Jesus came, a lot of the rutuals detailed in the Old Testament and other places went out the window, to be replaced by Jesus’ two new commandments:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. ”
If, after that, you think that such dietary consideration still apply and are supported in the New Testament, please point out where it says this.
“And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat” (Leviticus 26:29). “And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters” (Deuteronomy 28:53). “And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them” (Deuteronomy 28:57). “And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend” (Jeremiah 19:9).
He also said it is more important what comes out of our mouths than what goes in. I agree that pork is bad for you just like smoking and drinking, but we are all sinners. They are still coming out with new studies about just how bad for us it really is.
as has been said, the covenant between Man and Jesus-God supercedes the one between the Jews and God.
But here’s the interesting bit…
Leviticus, which is where so many rules are actually codified, is, of course, part of the old testament.
The vast majority of which is ignored by Christians (which is fine).
However, the two most cited Biblical passages against homosexuality are:
Leviticus 20:13 – “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
Leviticus 18:22-23 – Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
So, the question is…does Leviticus still count? Obviously it still does so long as it justifies ****.
The dietary laws, as well as the laws governing holidays and other factors, are part of the Jewish traditions. Most Christians today are not Christians. In Acts 10, Peter receives a vision from God concerning Peter’s hesitancy to meet with Gentiles, in which God uses food as a metaphor for people, and in which God chastises Peter for saying he’d never eat the unclean food. Then, in Acts 15, we get down to the crux of the matter. After Gentiles being hassled by the Jewish Christians to follow all the old testament rules, Paul and some others travel to Jerusalem to discuss the matter. Here’s the critical version, which is a quote from Peter and the other leaders:
20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.
These are the only Old Testament laws that the first Jewish Christians thought were critical for Christians to follow.
All foods were made clean in the New Testament in the book of Acts. The Old Testament is Judaism. These were dietary laws in the Old testament and they are still good but not necessary to follow although I am not saying eat a pack of bacon everyday but you should keep all things in moderation.
another fine example of how Christianity picks and chooses the laws it finds convenient and ignores the rest. this is not a reflection on individual Christians who simply do what their religion commands, It is merely a fact that the clergy are a lot of lying hypocrites.
of course the laws the Christians have hand picked are deemed to have been carved in stone by ther very finger of GOD
I really don’t have an answer other than those dietary laws were given by the Lord to Moses because the Jews were unable to live a higher law. It was intended for the Jews only. He didn’t put others-like the Egyptians- under the same law. We as Latter-day Saints have been given a dietary set of laws also. They are called the Word of Wisdom and they exclude coffee, tea, tobacco and liquor. He hasn’t given those injunctions to other Christian sects. However once a person covenants to keep those laws with the Lord, they are binding. I hope that helps.
Oh, you’ve got to read on dear friend. Eating various foods is a matter of grace and a matter of individual conscience.
Such people teach that it is wrong to marry and to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten, after a prayer of thanks, by those who are believers and have come to know the truth. Everything that God has created is good; nothing is to be rejected, but everything is to be received with a prayer of thanks, because the word of God and the prayer make it acceptable to God. (1 Timothy 4:3-5)
OR
“You are no more intelligent than the others,” Jesus said to them. “Don’t you understand? Nothing that goes into you from the outside can really make you unclean, because it does not go into your heart but into your stomach and then goes on out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared that all foods are fit to be eaten.) And he went on to say, “It is what comes out of you that makes you unclean. For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill, commit adultery, be greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander, pride, and folly— all these evil things come from inside you and make you unclean.” (Mark 7:18-23)
AND AGAIN
You are free to eat anything sold in the meat market, without asking any questions because of your conscience. For, as the scripture says, “The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 10:25-)
If I thank God for my food, why should anyone criticize me about food for which I give thanks?” (1 Corinthians 10:30)
No, Lord Jesus has declared that all foods are okay to be eaten. Furthermore, it doesn’t hurt to enjoy a glass or two of wine now and again.
You make grass grow for the cattle and plants for us to use, so that we can grow our crops and produce wine to make us happy, olive oil to make us cheerful, and bread to give us strength. (Psalms 104:14-15)
Limit what you eat or drink based on your own conscience and convictions, but give everyone else the right and the freedom to eat and drink as they wish. Everything is a gift from God and He delights in giving them to us and seeing us enjoy them. Just be sure to enjoy everything in moderation.
Joy and peace to you!
You cited an Old testament verse. After Christ’s finished work comes the The New covenant. “Let no man judge you in meat or in drink or…” Colossians 2:16
Acts 10:11-12. Peter was commanded by the Lord to rise, kill and eat the animals which he has seen in the vision. He, being a Jew understands the Law which is, not to eat anything uncommon or unclean but God Himself commanded it.
The jewish dietary laws were never required of non-jewish Christians, just as circucision was not required of them, from the days of the council at Jerusalem that considered the Greek and other gentile converts.
Acts 21:25 “But concerning the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote, having decided that they should abstain from meat sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication.”
Concerning other health hazzards: it is wise to follow what science has found to be injurious to the health, as in abstaining from alcohol and tobacco and other dangerous drugs.
Eating predatory meat-eating animals has never been popular among most all cultures. Whether we eat omnivores such as the bear, the raccoon, etc. is a personal choice. They can have infected meat from their free-range eating just as pigs can when they are not carefully fed.
Domesticated pigs eat whatever they are given to eat. Pig farmers who raise pigs for human counsumption feed them diets which make the meat relatively safe and free from the trichinosis worms that were formerly a danger. Modern domesticated pork is generally a clean safe meat and not eating it is a personal choice or a religious restriction.
Christians have freedom to eat what they wish rather than following the jewish dietary laws because it is not a religious restriction. Christians can choose whether or not they are circumcized also because the sign of our Christian faith is baptism, not circumcision.
Several parts of the Mosaic law still apply to Christianity, but there are NT references that negate some of them, one of the most notable being what animals could be eaten.
In Acts 10:9-23, The apostle Peter has a vision where God tells him to eat of several unclean animals, and when Peter refuses God tells him, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” Peter has this vision three times the same day. Though the vision was supposed to be more symbolic–that the Gentiles were now saved under the grace of Christ–it has made the statement that these animals are no longer considered unclean.
Vultures… never tried one, but they look yummy!!! I’d try it if it was served to me.
I raised pigs for 6 years, fed them only milow and flower, highley intelligent creatures, they can be house broken, and
incredibly powerful and destructive to hurricane and picket fences or anything they can get their heads under.
Ham makes the best sandwich in my book.
Ive never seen a pig out eating road kill.
Using gasoline is more hazrdous to your health.
Here is a spiritual truth, so I doubt you will understand, but it is to those who have ears to hear.
The Old Testament is a ‘type’ and ‘shadow’ of Christ since He had not yet physically died on the cross. All things written in it point to Christ’s sacrifice.
God had called a people to Himself to be separate (holy). The physical manifestations were shown by circumcision in the flesh (post Christ, circumcision of the heart), abstaining from unclean meat (post Christ, abstaining from unclean practice: witchcraft, drunkenness, lust, lasciviousness etc), animal sacrifice (post Christ, He was the final and ultimate sacrifice), and so on.
Therefore, God has not changed. The way He reveals Himself to us is different, yes, but His redemption plan remains unchanged.
It also explains there is no food which is unclean, but the words came out of a person could make him unclean, there is the reasons in the bible..
Jesus also explained the law is established for the goodness of man, not against man..
Chirstian would probably not eat pork if that means so much to you, someone brought out another thing from the bible the other day..If something you do will cause your brother to sin, then don’t do it…so if eating pork makes you to criticize, then I won’t do it…
now, is it because of the love of God, that christian would not do something for others? what would you do for others?
Jesus was Jewish and he adhered to the dietary laws of that faith. Nothing he did or said changed these laws. Christianity developed quite some time after his death and many things were reinterpreted, so I guess that’s why Christians eat pork.
Because the early Christians were Jews who had no intention of following any of the 613 commandments. They formed an entirely new religion, but used the Hebrew Bible for legitimacy.
.
Under grace and truth that came through Jesus Christ but not under the law that was given through Moses (John 1:17) all things are clean:
Rom 14:14 I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
I have taken care of patients who eat meat and had to check their BM for worms…..not really fun…..and they were really grossed out too. I keep hearing, well, be sure you cook the meat really well, especially pork…..who wants to eat DEAD worms?? (not me) Video below shows worms in pork….quite interesting. I challenge people to try it themselves. In fact….I think I will make another question to make sure they see this video!
I agree with the first person on the list. Those rules were from God for Moses and his people. When Jesus came He gave us new laws to follow. Gentiles (non-Jewish Christains) are not Jews and don’t follow that law. Blessings to you.
You are so right. So many who confess to be Christians, still hold on to the things they love. They refuse to acknowledge that the Bible clearly tells us to refrain from such foods in order to make it ok for them to do so. They think that by ignoring some of the things that the Bible tells us we should do or not do, that they will then not be held accountable for what they didn’t know or understand. They are clearly mistaken. We are accountable for the light we have, and God will not hold us accountable for the light we never received. However if the light we did not receive is due to the fact that we did not study his word to find out all God wants us to know we are then held accountable. We can not claim ignorance. We will still be judged for what we pushed aside.
Some use the text on that no one is to judge us as to what we eat, drink, or if we keep the Sabbath. Colossians 2:16 is speaking of practices that were a “shadow of things to come.” Before Jesus died on the cross as the Lamb of God, lambs were killed as a part of the temple service. Also there were meat offerings and drink offerings that pointed to the cross. Jesus fulfilled all of those, but He did not alter one “jot or tittle” of the law. (Matthew 5:17,18).
Others say that God showed Peter that all animals are now clean to eat. This is found in Acts 10 where Peter saw a sheet of unclean animals in a trance and was told, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat.” While it shows that even in New Testament times Peter did not eat unclean meats, the purpose of the occurrence was to teach the Christians from a Jewish background not to call others “common or unclean.”
Some say foods can not defile us. Matthew 15:11 and 7:18-23, Jesus said that our words reveal our thought and therefore character. We will be judged by character, not by diet. But it is wise to care for our bodies according to the guidelines that God has given us for health and happiness. We may bless our loved ones and serve God longer. Those who defile their bodies will be destroyed. 1 Corinthians 3:17.
How about those that say that any creature may be eaten if sanctified by prayer. 1 Timothy 4:4,5 refers to things offered to idols. Those of Jewish heritage thought they should not be eaten, but Gentile converts didn’t see what difference it made if they prayed over it to the true God. Notice verse 5 says this refers to things that had been sanctified by the word of God. God did not create every creature to be eaten according to Leviticus 11.
God told Peter (NT) in a dream, “What I have called clean (fit to eat) call thou not unclean. What I have called unclean (not fit to eat) call thou not clean.” A lot of the dietary laws were relaxed, presumably to allow for the population explosion on Earth as time went on in order to allow for more natural resources to be called upon as foodstuffs so that people would not be inviolate of God’s dietary laws. This particular passage is what the “OK to eat pork” is based upon.
