NakedHike asked:

It should be called the poor diet belt, heart disease belt, or cancer belt (Southern parts of the U.S.A.)

Just stay out of the South if you have nothing but disdain for it. I, for one, miss living in the South!

Because there is a church on every corner, quite literally. Even people who aren’t Christians call themselves Christian because it is profitable. You can be a preacher just by auditioning at your local church, credentialed or not (they’ll get you the credentials after). You don’t even have to audition, just start your own church! And most every real estate agent, banker, car salesman, etc., has been a preacher at one point or another. Heck, I was asked if I was a preacher when I walked into a yard sale a closed church was having to sell off stuff since they couldn’t find a new preacher. There was a perfectly good church right across the road, and two others within a quarter mile! Not to mention several others on other streets in the town. The town’s population was only 3 or 4 hundred. So much for unity.

There are more churches than poor, heart patients, and cancer patients put together!

BTW – I don’t see the question as condescending at all! I’ve been here and see what they eat. They even bread and deep fry their string beans! They add marshmallows to sweet potatoes (one of the best tasting vegetable stand-alones on the planet), they soak the corn in lye and call it hominy. . .nasty. They do have MUCH heart disease, cancer and diabetes. It is scary. And don’t try to tell them their diet is killing them! They will be very offended.

I guess it means that the people tend to be religious. Why be so condescending?

Come on. I can think of a longer list than that, in my sleep!! Racists, Adulter’s, Gossipers……
